To kick off the relaunch of the Sofanauts podcast I interview a very special guest. In 1980 Bruce Bethke wrote a short story that would give a name to a whole new genre movement in science fiction and pull together writers like Bruce Sterling, William Gibson and John Shirley under one banner. That story was called Cyberpunk!

Mission Statement for The Sofanauts podcast:

At the end of May 2010, I came to the decision that I no longer wanted to run the Sofanauts podcast. Putting together a “science fiction news” show with three or four guests at any one time was way too much work for me. It had become a slog. I wanted to meet and talk to exciting people, but the longer the show went on, the more it was about making sure people were on time and sitting in front of their mics. That was not what I signed up for.

But the good news is that Sofanauts is back!

This time around, it will have slightly different format. The show will spotlight one guest at a time, and these guests will hail from all sides of the science fiction, fantasy, and horror fields, and even further beyond the scope of genre fiction itself. There are adventurers, scientists, thinkers, and other fascinating people with relevant stories to share. Like the tag line says: The World is Full of Interesting People. I intend to talk to some of them. I think you’ll want to listen. Please join me on the Sofa…

I’m really excited about this workshop because it will be run by Marc Zicree.

Scheduling Conflict? See Important Note Below!!!!

Mark has had a huge amount of success in the business of Film and TV scripts and he’s going to tell you exactly what to do, in order to get your script in front of leading producers in the industry. Marc has had a successful career as a writer-producer in film and TV, selling over 100 teleplays, screenplays and pilots to every major studio and network, including landmark stories for such shows as STAR TREK– NEXT GENERATION, DEEP SPACE NINE, FRIDAY THE 13TH–THE SERIES, TWILIGHT ZONE, BABYLON 5, BEAUTY AND THE BEAST, FOREVER KNIGHT, SLIDERS and (yes) HE-MAN and THE SMURFS.

Marc was also nominated for both the Hugo and Nebula awards for “World Enough and Time,” a new STAR TREK episode starring George Takei that he co-wrote, directed and executive produced.

And he also wrote the story that would eventually become Far Beyond The Stars from Deep Space 9 – a truly amazing story set in 50’s America with all issues of race and politics, all mixed with the pulp magazine industry. If you have not seen that particular show I highly recommend it.

These are just some of the things Marc will teach in the TV/Film Script Workshop:

How to conceive, write and sell a script to television and/or film
How to conceive, pitch and sell a TV series
How to target the buyers and get them to pay attention
How to build a franchise in TV, film and other media (including books,
internet, comics and radio)
How to meet and get mentored by the top people in film and TV
How to write spec scripts for, pitch and get hired on staff on a TV show
How to build the continuing career once you’ve made that first sale
Why now is the best time ever to be writing science fiction for film and TV
What to do with the millions you’ll earn

Scheduling Conflict?
If you really want access to this information but you can not make it to the live session, go ahead and sign up for the session. Everyone who is signed up for this webinar will be given access to Video and Audio recordings of the entire session the week following the webinar.

StarShipSofa, The Audio Science Fiction magazine has just given birth… to a bouncing 14 week old podcast called The Sofanauts. Proud parent Tony C Smith is overjoyed with the new arrival.

Tony sez ” The Sofanauts is a weekly SF news related show. Joining me each week are a variety of guests from the world of science fiction literature, SF blogs and publishing to bring you the latest news and gossip from the world of SF. Guests have ranged from science fiction writers, including Jeff VanderMeer, Mary Robinette Kowal, Jeremiah Tolbert and Gord Sellar (nominated for this year’s John W. Campbell Award for Best New Writer) to editors and publishers, like the anthologist John Joseph Adams and Pablo Defendini (mover and shaker over at Tor.com). And one day I hope to snag young Mr Doctorow!

We are now in the 13th week of the show’s conception and it seems to be going from strength to strength. You can always tell how popular a show becomes as guests now ask to be on the show. This week will see the Sofanauts blast full throttle into Worldcon 2009, bringing you all the daily gossip and titbits of what is going on at this year’s convention… and all in glorious audio.”
